There is a new study out last week that says that 50% of all students at four-year colleges and 75% of students at technical/2-year schools lack the basic reading comprehension necessary to understand a credit card offer. Or a newspaper editorial.
What is the world coming to?
What does this mean for our generation?
And with Professor Digory (of Narnia fame) I say, "what are they teaching the children at those schools?"

Don't you think that is a little judgemental? I am a student about to leave college and I've found that those children in schools that don't want to be taught, just will not be taught. Those that try hard, on the other hand, are rewarded when their results come out by the media twisting them whichever way it pleases them - if they are bad: we're not working hard enough, and if they are good: the exam questions are apparently too easy - my advice is not to believe every fact you read...
What are they teaching those kids in schools?
Well, in US, where you live, the answer to that is mostly indiscipline, rowdiness, and vulgarity.
Over here,in India, though our literacy levels are less, even then whoever goes to school,is instilled with an everlasting thirst for constant knowledge, both scientific and humanistic, along with a very sharp IQ, because our course standards in school levels are what you people are taught in the beginning year or two at college.
Just for example, what you people teach in 12th grade school, we are taught in 8th / 9th grade.
mmm well..I have never been in the US!!!
but in India, we do take calculus in school...but most of my friends who are engineers... want to get their masters from US universities cause some high end tech stuff like 'nanotechnology' arnt taught in our country....I love my country..I'd die for her..but that doesnt mean I should hide facts...
and I dont think...that Indian schools are the best in inculcating values into Kids
well there were instances when grade 10 kids (a boy and a girl) made a lewd video and circulated it to their friends thru there mobile phones....but I must say they are lesser than in the US..true we do have moral science classes and we are allowed to pray in school..
and I live in kerala that boasts 100% literacy though @ the national level its less...which is a cause for concern...
